Patch Notes - October 25th, 2025

Last month I promised I was working on pricing but I put that on hold for some other new features we needed now!

Improvements

Over the last month or so we've been finishing quite a few houses. In fact, this year we'll finish 5 homes and all of them will be in the second half of the year! This is exciting but it can be a lot for a really small team to keep track of.

Task Management

This led me into building an entire task management system. I previously had a poorly designed task management system for making selections but I've overhauled the entire process to allow for being able to create, sort, complete, and have discussions on tasks.

Tasks can be added from the project or room page Download
Tasks can have a title, room, category, status, due date, owner, images, and a description Download

You are able to quickly write up simple tasks as you wish from your desktop. However, this was not the workflow I cared about. What I wanted was VERY rapid documentation of tasks in the field. This means I wanted to be able to walk into a room on the job site, look around for any punch list items, and quickly add them to Fixture and Finish. The "quick" part was key so there's a few special features to make this very fast:

  1. You can open the page for a room in Fixture and Finish and generate tasks from the room while being able to see all the important context. Any tasks in that room are automatically linked to the room.
  2. You can generate tasks from fully customizable templates that are unique to your business. We tend to run into the same few problems. You can create a template so you don't need to re-write these tasks repeatedly.

All of this is super quick from a mobile device and makes punching out a house a breeze.

Notifications

We also overhauled notifications. I found it very annoying when I would have notifications in app and I would need to leave the work I was doing to clear them. Now, you can easily clear them from any page. Additionally, if you ever imported a selection and were waiting for it to finish, you don't need to refresh the page any longer. All notifications are now streamed to your browser so as soon as it's done, your notifications will update in real time.

Detailed Drawings

Lastly, we largely build our houses based on what the architects provide to us. I generally consider these the "Plans." However, these aren't the only documents we use to guide the construction process. Throughout construction we will develop cabinet plans with our cabinet designers, we will develop wall plans for more complex plumbing or electrical work, and we will draw trim details as we see the house unfold. All of these are what I would call "Detailed Drawings". They are usually unique to a few places in the house so you can find this new tab on the room page. You can easily upload a PDF that you find yourself referencing throughout construction that is specific to that room.

Bugfixes

In addition to all these new features, we also fixed a handful of bugs:

  1. If you ever tried to delete a plan that was associated to two spaces, then it would result in an error. This has been fixed and now the plan will be removed from all spaces.
  2. Clearing all notifications would not clear all notifications. For some users with too many notifications (more than 20), that went onto a second page your "Clear All" would only clear the first page. Then you would see the unread notifications from the second page come to the first page. Now, "Clear All" really does clear all of your notifications.
  3. A few pages were experiencing some slower load times due to how images were being gathered. These have been optimized to improve page load speeds.

What's Next

We still have a lot of actual homes to build but hopefully I'll squeeze in a few more features before the holidays hit:

  • One of my guiding principles is that using an app in the field sucks most of the time. Everything we do either needs to be extremely simple to do or needs to be easily translated to paper. Towards that end, we are going to add a quick way to export all your tasks with their title, owner, category, room, due date, pictures, and description for quick printing to hand out to trades people who might be working through a list in the field.
  • We also want to add some regular notifications, reminders, and summaries of the tasks in Fixture and Finish. You will be able to opt into a weekly project digest, receive regular reminders to tasks, and subscribe for updates to specific tasks.
